Natalie Lunn – Deerhurst Nursery

I worked in a nursery as part of a work experience placement whilst doing my A-levels and really enjoyed it and this is what made me decide to go on to do an apprenticeship in childcare.
I really liked the idea of working in a nursery and gaining hands-on experience and learning at the same time instead of having to go to university. Since doing my apprenticeship, I have definitely become more confident and become more aware of how to support the children I work with in their development. Aspiration Training have been really supportive and helpful during my training. If I ever needed anything, my assessor was there to support and there were a lot of resources available through Smart Assessor to help me through my course.
I had an assessor come to see me at work at the nursery to see me put into practice what I had been taught on the course. The assessor was always very helpful. I also really like using Smart Assessor which tracks everything that I do as part of the apprenticeship, so I don’t need to use a hard copy paper folder. It can be accessed by not only me, but also the nursey and the tutors at Aspiration Training. We can even sometime run Smart Sessions which is an online teaching session.
I have gained a lot of confidence and the ability to think on my feet. I like looking after the child, identifying what they need and how to support them and help with their development.
In the future I may progress on to the Level 4 Childcare course, but just at the moment I simply love what I’m doing which completing the apprenticeship is helping me to do.
