Career Boosting Apprenticeship Success – Wychavon

Apprenticeships offer a pathway for employers to build a talented and skilled future workforce and now there are more incentives for those who use the pathway.

Pershore College are a local training provider supporting the development of apprentices and have seen numerous cases of success, most recently coming with Apprentice Greenkeeper, Daniel Merrett.

Daniel had originally worked with animals since leaving school, but decided that he wanted a change of career. An apprenticeship opportunity came up working as a Greenkeeper at Tewkesbury Park, since taking the role Daniel hasn’t looked back.

Daniel was recognised on the national stage with Greenkeeper International magazine including an interview with him as part of National Apprenticeship Week and he also was nominated as Toro Student Greenkeeper of the year 2020 Award, this has been postponed until 2021.

Daniel said: “Working and studying at Tewkesbury Park has been the best decision I have ever made. I have gained new skills both personally and practically, which have been good for my own confidence. I attend Pershore College, which has several facilities that apprentice greenkeepers can benefit from, I am really enjoying the apprenticeship and cannot recommend it highly enough.”

Pershore College are part of WCG which has colleges in other local areas such as Evesham and Malvern Hills.

In the Government’s Summer Statement, a range of new support incentives were launched for employers who take on an apprentice with a payment of £2000 to employers who take on a young person between the age of 16-24 in addition to the pre-existing £1000 available for 16-18 year old apprentices.  A grant of £1500 is available for apprentices over the age of 25 or over.
