Worcester City Council is launching a new Apprenticeship grant programme to support small and medium size businesses looking to hire an Apprentice. Businesses based in the Worcester City Council area can apply for a grant of £1,000 towards the cost of hiring an Apprentice.

Priority will be given to businesses operating in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering; Cyber Security/IT/Defence; Visitor and Destination Economy; and Construction. Other knowledge based sectors such as advertising and marketing, consultancy and legal and financial services will be considered.

Eligible businesses must provide an approved Apprenticeship and not had an Apprentice within the previous 12 months. The Apprentice must be aged 16 – 24, reside in the Worcester City postcode area and not previously employed by the business.

Worcester City Council is running the scheme in conjunction with Worcestershire Apprenticeships. Businesses can apply for the grant once the Apprentice has completed 13 weeks on the programme.
